It inevitably happens to me when we are having a great trip.
We are well prepared. The kids are doing great. We are having blast. I start to relax. Then I relax to the point where I pay a little less attention, and my husband warns “Keep your game face on.”
It’s not like something bad is going to happen. It’s not like there’s never a chance to let down our guard while on a trip. But traveling with young kids can be very mercurial. It’s probably, as a rule, better to be too attentive than too laid back. “Keep your game face on” is a reminder to be prepared for the unexpected.
Well, I can tell you that my game face is flagging right now. Tomorrow we’ve got one short 2 hour flight and then we’re done. Should be easy. I’ve packed less snacks, less toys, less diapers. While packing, I wasn’t paying too close attention. I started to tell myself, “Hey – keep your game face on.”
There’s a fine line between being relaxed and being unprepared.
I guess we’ll find out tomorrow if I went too far over the line…
